The weather on Athens is known to rapidly change and the wind blows constantly. However, the climate is relatively mild which enables certain crops to do well here. Aside from crops, marble is also quarried and shipped off-world.

Athens was one of the only outer planets which fully supported Unification. It was captured by Independents during the war and then changed hands several times. The Alliance finally decided to bomb the major cities to drive the Browncoats out for good. Even though this meant leaving a lot of civilians dead or homeless, the strategy worked. The world's farmers were more fortunate than the city dwellers, and are slowly reconnecting their ties to the rest of the 'Verse. Since the war, the Alliance has opened up the bombed cities for legal salvage operations. Licenses for these operations can be obtained from United Reclamation or the Alliance, but with all the buzz in these cities it is not difficult for those without licenses to sneak in and out.
