The governor of Ezra died unexpectedly near the end of the war, which caused the planet to spin into turmoil. Thousands of refugees and soldiers from both sides of the war began to flood into Ezra, causing jobs to become scarce and the economy to go belly up. This caused many criminals to flock here when they heard of the overwhelmed law enforcement and the ability to hide under the larger problems of the planet.

In the midst of all this chaos, Adelai Niska moved his skyplex into orbit around Ezra and claimed to be the local power. Niska runs some legitimate businesses as a front, and avoids prosecution through the use of bribes, assassination and the threat of horrible torture chambers. For many years, the common law on Ezra was: if you can't defend yourself or what you've got, someone will take it from you. That went for both people and property. In fact, many slavers came here to find extra cargo.

While the Alliance Parliament is still 'in the process' of finding a new governor who might stand up to Niska and regain full control of the planet, an Alliance Security force at least has a foothold here once more. Efforts are being made to stop some of the criminal activities and protect the populace, without getting into a conflict with the crime lord. There is work to be found on Ezra, though it may not be to everyone's liking. Farming and ranching are common pursuits and Niska's business enterprises offer other jobs.
