"It's a decent kind of planet... there's factories and the like. Some ranches, if you're more for the outdoors..."
― Mal in "Our Mrs. Reynolds"

Beaumonde is a heavily industrialized planet which contains several factories that produce everything from computer parts to coffee mugs. Some of the large factories are owned by Blue Sun, though there is speculation that some of the factories are not really factories at all. However, the security of these buildings are so tight that no one is able to gain access inside, to either prove or disprove this rumor. Due to the large amount of factories, there is a great deal of pollution on Beaumonde. There are weather control systems that process most of the pollution, but scientists speculate that the long-term effects may not be so easy to deal with. Pollutants are continually finding their way into residents' water and soil, and therefore there are those who have moved their homes and businesses underground. Air quality improves somewhat as you move away from the cities and out into the country, where farmers and ranchers are able to make a decent living for themselves. The capital city of Beaumonde, New Dunsmuir, is the only city on the planet that does not have factories. The city itself is located on an ocean and is a popular tourist destination. Many people who are involved in the tourist industry or are wealthy factory workers make their homes in New Dunsmuir.
