Guan-Yin
The Cargo-Liner Guan-Yin
Class Cargo Liner
Crew Capacity 14
Ownership History

Dr. Ophelia Da'rhi - founter and first owner of the Guan-Yin.
Rafe Caradec - second owner of the Guan-Yin.
Dr. Olivia Piper - third owner of the Guan-Yin, through its retirement in November 2522.

The Guan-Yin, also known as "The Goddess" (as the ship was named for the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy), was a medical vessel based out of Persephone.

The first ship to bear the name was a cargo liner owned and operated by Dr. Ophelia Da'rhi, who had a vision of providing free medical care around the 'verse. She was able to get the ship up and running, fulfilling this mission, before her untimely death.

The ship passed to Rafe Caradec, who carried on with the mission and tried to expand into search-and-rescue work as well as some exploring. Following the loss of Mr. Caradec, the ship passed next into the hands of Dr. Olivia Piper, and the ship's mission was re-focused back on medical work.

The ship was present when a shuttle crashed on Beaumonde, and assisted in the aftermath of that event.

The Pescaline Crisis

In August of 2522, a terrorist organization called Miners for Freedom started targeting the Pescaline D production process, hoping to eventually shut down mining on Regina where the drug is used to treat Bowden's Malady. They bombed the Blue Sun Pharmaceutical Corporation complex on Verbena, where most of the drug was produced.

The Guan-Yin responded by trying to take a shipment of the drug, purchased directly from Blue Sun, to Regina. A firefight ensued with the terrorists. Several people were shot and at least one terrorist was killed, while most of the Guan-Yin's crew and friends got away with no more than scrapes (Matty's Logs: Part I, Part II). Shortly after the battle, the Guan-Yin lifted off and retreated to Persephone.

The ship took on more supplies and an Alliance escort, and returned to Regina to attempt another delivery. The terrorists once again resisted, but were ultimately overpowered (Matty's Logs: Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV). The Alliance was able to put an end to their operations, the drugs were delivered, and production eventually returned to normal as well.

A Bigger Ship

The crew began to feel that the ship was too cramped and restricting for their work, and so they found a new one. With a bit of work and assistance from friends in the Alliance, they were able to purchase a Trans-U class vessel, which became the Guan-Yin II. By the end of 2522, the crew had retired the old ship and moved onto the new one.

(Be safe; Be swift; Be loved as you were loved by us. May you see the black again and know I carry you in my heart and spirit from now till I go to Valhalla.) - Eyvindr Bjarnarsun upon disembarking the Guan-Yin for the last time in Eavesdown Docks, Persephone; November 2522
