Amber would be played by Olivia Burnette or Eva Mendes - but only 5'3 and with dark auburn hair.

2526

2525

December 2525

  • Mrs. Hamley, now retired from running her boarding house and 'rooms' on Paquin, is tracked down on Persephone. She gives little information, but many hints, as to what may have happened with the Dawn Star Circus. She also reassures Amber on one point. While she inherited everything, including Amber's 7-year contract, from Michael, the contract was nullified. Amber cannot be uprooted from her life because someone sold it off.
  • Christmas at the Docks! Persephone Docks are enlivened by a 30' tall christmas tree imported by Leutrim and Ethereal Investigations. With the help of the Medical Wellness Clinic the evening turns into a dinner and warm blankets night for the poor of Eavesdown.

November 2525

  • A visit to Paquin uncovers a number of disturbing things.
    • Leutrim finds a saferoom dug near the old circus landing site, and bodies inside it. The woman has obviously been shot, the two young children with her appear to have fallen asleep. Although mummified by the life-support, they may provide answers. The Ethereal Embrace smuggles them offworld to Persephone at the Medical Wellness Clinic for autopsies.
    • Dale and Lee meanwhile dig around the orphanage. They uncover a place with little to no funding, and a scandal in its past no-one wants to talk about. They also find out that the data-files have been 'lost'... but a chat to 'wheelie', who is the volunteer teacher during the day, uncovers the fact that paper records have been kept down in the cellar since the place opened because local help doesn't trust computers - in the early days, power spikes and outages were a regular ocurrence, so paper backup made sense and became a habit. Dale nearly needs medical help himself, but he and Lee valiantly fight their way through the roaches, dust, broken carboard boxes and torn labels to carry away what they can find of records around the time Amber was there. Now to try and make sense of the notes!
    • With the help of Tuck, Amber maps out the circus campsite and then ventures into town, finding her old menor, Mrs. Hamley, who use to run the boarding house (and whorehouse) has retired. The 'new' brothel is a co-operative and one of the women in it is a girl she knew from the orphanage, Maisie. A private visit uncovers some information that disturbs Amber and has her considering decisions about her relationship with Lethaniel very hard indeed.

August 2525

  • Zachary finally gets to poke around in Amber's head a little. If Leutrim and Lee weren't there, Amber probably would've been even less forthcoming. There is no immediate result, but later when unwinding at the Dregs, Leutrim finds himself listening as a snippet of memory unfolds. For the first time, there are actual names outside the circus to follow up!

June 2525

  • Michiba finds himself promoted to Acting Lord Defender for the estate.
  • Amber finds herself in an unusual position as Tuck looks her up, and they start spending some time together, while she and Michiba also get to know each other. Strangely, Michiba's meditation and sparring offers Amber a sense of familiar tranquility she hasn't had since she was a small child.

June 2525

  • Ethereal and the Shadowdancer crews join forces to recover Lord Winchester from the kidnappers. Amber, against medical advice, drives the MULE with the 'invasion force' right into the cargo bay of the kidnappers ship, and once Lord Winchester is aboard, out again, while Michiba and Leutrim act as snipers and Eugene mans the temporary gun on the MULE. With Elric and Twitch riding shotgun, the fight is over before it gets started.

May 2525

  • Lord Winchester is abducted from his estate on Hera, Amber finds herself shot three times - twice in the leg to encourage Lord Winchester's co-operation, once in the side when she's no longer needed and the kidnappers remove him. Its while watching this that Amber finally comes to the reluctant and regretful decision that she needs to learn to kill, since she was willing to do so to try and prevent his kidnapping and all she achieved was a bullet in the side. Leutrim is less than happy to find out that the men responsible are the same ones that shot Eugene and stole her wedding ring outside the Bounty Hunter Guild.
  • With depression setting in and nightmares getting worse, Amber asks for Lee to help find her a psych to see if they can help. Unfortunately, it seems as if the only one he trusts is busier than a bee in a honey factory, but their times just don't mesh.

April 2525

  • Eugene,s sister meets with Leutrim and Amber at the Persephone Gardens. It startles Amber somewhat, as she'd invited Gene ... and now finds out that she's gone to her family's home on Sihnon to heal, without Leutrim while he does 'something' (which turns out to be the hunt for kindapped browncoats).

March 2525

  • Xian is abducted. Ok, Amber didn't really want to see her for a doc appointment anyway, but still, its a bit radical.
  • Eugene is shot down outside of the Bounty Hunter's Guild House. She survives, remaining in a drug induced haze for weeks. Amber feels helpless about the whole thing.

2524

December, 2524:

  • Lord Carmichael unveils Anti-terrorist Monument in Persephone Commons, thereby attracting terrorists. Ethereal Investigations are running protection, and manage to keep him and their own crew alive despite RPGs and a helicopter. Leutrim on sniper duty manages to shoot that out of the sky, somehow!

November, 2524:

  • Amber is informed by Lord Winchester that she has been given a promotion to Senior Arms Dealer.

September, 2524:

  • During an impromptu gathering at the Dregs, and with far too many people around for comfort, Amber has a touch too much to drink and dances in front of people. Never again.
  • Lord Winchester hires Lochlan Wills and Johnny Farnam as additions to his security team. Amber reserves judgement on both, although they seem pleasant enough.
  • Leutrim and Eugene marry on Lord Winchester's estate on Hera.

August 25th, 2524:

  • Lord Winchester begins interviewing ships for a contract to deliver firearms after the local company, Persephone Cargo, which has been handling shipments makes a couple of spectacular mistakes - not least of which is assuming they can cover them up and shift the blame elsewhere. He also begins searching for replacement security personnel.

July 2524:

  • Amber finds out that rifles can shoot through people, as a tea delivery to Josephine becomes an invitation to meet with Evalyn for an update on the Bounty Hunter Murders and turns into an ambush, and she finds herself the person being shot in an attempt to hit the target. The experience leaves her sure of three things: 1) She made a mess of looking after Josephine. 2) She's incompetent 3) Its not enough to carry protection, you have to use it. For now on, she's WEARING the armour. (It was sweet of Dale to carry her to the MWC though. Pity she was semiconscious and bleeding all over him, otherwise she'd have taken great delight with teasing Lee about it later). OOC: 17 points damage on single shot. 42% health. Ouch!

March, 2524:

  • Lee vanishes off on a mystery mission concerned with his past - or his future Amber contacts him briefly to check he's still breathing, and then steps back in the hope he keeps on doing so, after a long talk about a number of things including an offer of assisting him in a retreat when he returns.
  • Baltimore vanishes as well - for some reason - and Amber is elected to take care of his 3 month old pup suffering extreme separation anxiety. Thankyou Baltimore. There will be payback . . .
  • Leutrim is almost killed in an assassination strike on the Winchester Estate On Hera. Apparently he is the target, since the mystery attackers pull out right after he goes down. Annoyingly, Amber finds herself doing the collate reports/organise beds, showers & food/get things back into household routine while everyone else heads down the hospital.

Febuary, 2524:

January, 2524:

  • Amber does something she normally never does: interferes. The result? more respect for Baltimore than she had. She's still going to get even with him over the Lee Incident though.
  • Finally admits a degree of curiosity about her background, and to her surprise finds that the people she knows seen happy to either volunteer, or be volunteered, to help. Amber begins assembling what little she knows into a coherent file.

2523

December, 2523:

  • Amber rescues a kid (of the baby goat kind) and names it Baltimore Junior, possibly for the hair and expression.
  • Jackson Rawls, a friend of Leutrims from the Tienlong, is hired part-time to work with Leutrim Donnchadh as needed for the Winchester Repeating Arms Co.). They meet for the first time in the Dregs on Persephone. Amber forgets herself and sasses him when the opening he leaves to verbal comeback is too sweet to ignore. Looks like to start of a friendship.
  • Drops an icecube down the back of Leutrim's back while he was mid-gloat. (You had to be there).

November, 2523:

  • Leutrim Donnchadh goes off to help a group of others - something about kidnapped Mudders.
  • Amber recieves a message both he and Eugene have been shot. She shuttles out to the Tienlong and spends the next week annoying the crew and Leutrim, and earning Eugene's gratitude for strategic use of a hairbrush and provision of clothes that fit. Since no-one will tell her what it was all about, she considers the annoyance justified, and memorises the names and faces of those involved.
  • Lee, on board the Tienlong, falls for one of Baltimore 'jokes' and the resultant crossed wires make the next month and a half of intereactions with him highly confusing for all concerned. Except, possibly, Baltimore.
  • Leutrim's recovery is painfull, and marked by a high degree of grumpiness as its taking place on Hera, and without Eugene around. He does however say he'd like to introduce Amber to a friend he made on the Tienlong at some point.

October, 2523:

  • Leutrim tells Amber he's filed to become a member of Bounty Hunter's Guild as sponsored by Josephine Bovie,.
  • Leutrim is promoted by Lord Winchester to Head of Security, House Bennet & Winchester Repeating Arms Co. (Winchester Arms Auction Log)
  • She also discovers that much can be forgiven someone who owns a cat called Schroedinger, being introduced to a young officer named Adrian. Unfortunately, there's little time for talk as the event also means Amber sees her first notorious person - a certain known pirate at the Auction. Luckily nothing untoward happens, apart from putting a close to any conversation with him.
  • Amber also meets Evalyn, who runs Ethereal Investigations at the Auction, and after being 'ignored' briefly, introduces herself again with sign language. The following conversation lasts quite some time and is enjoyed by both.

September 2523:

  • Somewhat to Amber's surprise, Leutrim is hired by Lord Winchester of Winchester Repeating Arms Co. for Security position with House Bennet on Hera.
  • Leutrim Donnchadh tells Amber about Eugene. Amber decides it'd be the best thing if she were to regard Leutrim as a brother. He also informs her that he's cut a deal which will enable him to retain his dog/partner, Aelfred.

August 2523:

  • When Alliance Military take over the Police Department on Persephone, everyone quits. Amber suggests to Lord Winchester that he consider Leutrim Donnchadh if he needs to bolster his security force at any point.
  • Leutrim Donnchadh finds out how annoying Amber can be when she follows him home and makes him eat something before he gets drunk.

July 2523:

  • Successfully completing her first sales deal at the Winchester Estate on Hera, Amber sees the client out and promptly succumbs to nerves in private.
  • Runs into Leutrim Donnchadh and Aelfred in the Gardens on Persephone. Falls in love with Aelfred. Begins making a cautious friend of his master.
  • A few days later, and Josephine Bovie, Assistant Guildmaster of the Bounty Hunter's Guild, has her tell the story of her uncles murder to Simon, head of the guild. Neither are happy to learn that whoever did it had faked membership of the guild.
  • Shooting event is held by Laurent McCain. Leutrim Donnchadh buys Amber her first beer. At least he had the decency to make if COLD.

June 2523:

  • Amber is released after being held in custody while her uncles murder/assassination and both his and her possible criminal backgrounds are investigated.
  • She is not informed of the results apart from the fact his ship has been confiscated. When she turns up at the Persephone police trying to find out what is happening, she meets three people who deal with hear with unexpected kindness Baltimore, in charge of the station, a young woman (Josephine Bovie,) who hears what's happened, and Lord William Lockwood Winchester I, who offers her a job. With no idea if she'll be able to survive probation as an arms dealer for Winchester Repeating Arms Co., or be wanted if she does, Amber agrees because (frankly) a regular wage sounds better than per-hour-casual running MULES at the loading docks.
  • Moves to the Winchester Estate on Hera and dicovers her room comes with something called a whirlpool bath AND three meals a day. She promptly makes use of it.

Pre-Grid

This is very much OOC, but may be useful for BG tie-ins and such.

2522

2521

  • Her first survival run. They're loading on the arse-end of no-where, when Uncle Mike calls her over the icomm and says he'll be back in a couple of days to pick her up. On his return, she walks up the ramp, says 'you BASTARD' and heads for the hot showers. He joins her, explaining that out her on the rim you can never rely on anyone except yourself. What if pirates had come in while he was lifting? she'd have been on her own. What if she gets slaved? Could she get by on her own if the chance of escape came up? He begins teaching her survival basics, enough to be able to at least know if she can walk out and live - or not.
  • On Newhall, Amber wins her first bet, loading the Lad ahead of everyone else. Uncle mike puts it into an account for her.
  • On Beylix, her first actual race using a MULE rebuilt using scavenged parts a couple of months later, results in a broken arm and severe concussion, and Uncle Mike hauling her off to a medical clinic running on illegal drugs and smuggles supplies. She knows they're smuggled, because she's helped Uncle Mike load some of them on the Lad.
  • At then end of the year, her first lover. Uncle Mike is doing shakedown on a new ship with a pilot studying for his finals. Amber falls for him, and Uncle Mike shrugs and with a philosophical 'going to happen sometime: might as well be with someone I can kick out the airlock' gives his approval. Amber has a wonderful couple of months discovering what its like being in love before Dan leaves.

2520

  • Amber's apprenticeship contract is formally offered for sale by the Orphange on the usual 7-year 'apprentice' terms. She is purchased by Michael Wu on the advice of his friend Mrs Hamley, who runs the local whorehouse wheres Amber has been scrubbing floors and learning to cook in.
  • 'Uncle Mike' on the Gypsy Lad gives her a cabin and cortex access. Her first taste of cortex since she was orphaned. Amber stays up all night reading. He puts her to work learning to drive a loading MULE, ship repair etcetera - general gofer work. Teaches her the Irish whistle, and to sing, a little.

2518

  • The so-called Miranda Tapes is released. Sensible people declare it faked, whether they believe the broadcast or not.
  • Michael Wu gives evidence in a pirate/slaver trial, resulting in death sentences for all officers, and lifetime prison terms for crew. His sworn oath and proof that the ship 'Bonny Mae' was in fact the transport 'Emily's Song' which he had refitted the year before was seen by many as the clinching moment in the hijacking trial. Vengeance is sworn, but nothing happens.
  • Scandal breaks in Hope Springs. A company called QCS has been paying Dr. Caroline Tingwall for the use of the children in her care at the Orphanage as un-informed test subjects. The scandal cracked when a brother of a brain damaged young woman in a care facility found out QCS was using her to host organs grown for transplant. Investigators swarmed on the company and found out they were a clearing house for all kinds of just-barely-legal research. Quarrel, Carne and Samson, the three partners after whom the firm was supposedly named didn't exist, but the did find a framed letter on the wall of an office saying 'Remember the three rules for a clean result: QUARRANTINE the unsuitable, CONTROLS to verify the results, and SUBJECTS should be chosen to return the results needed.
  • Government funding for the Orphanage is pulled, leaving it to the town to finance again. Overnight, the barracks it used near the mine are closed and the children there vanish. MedRes and PharmCorp are both under investigation, and cut back their plans for the next year. The town sells most of the mine to Tigron as the rubies run out to try and make up the shortfall in funds.

2517

  • Amber begins regular part time work at the local whorehouse two days a week, cleaning and cooking. Mars Hamley is the first person to ever actually pay her for work done, or teach her, since she was orphaned.

2516

  • Amber receives the first of many notations on her juvenile record - escaping lawful custody, refusing lawful orders, leaving a place of contracted employment, assault on police, assault on a government employee, theft of a vehicle, delinquency, damage to government property and causing actual bodily harm. (She ran away from the 'approved training course' i.e., picking berries without pay, made her way to the city, lived for a month by running errands and sifting scrap for recycling, broke into abandoned office buildings to sleep and clean up, got arrested when she tried thieving a warm sweater out of a MULE and was charged with trying to steal the MULE, kicked the cop who tried grabbing her, tried escapign out the window back at the child welfare offices before she was shipped back to Hope Springs. At least they left out unlawful imprisonment, from when she locked the welfare officer in the room while she tried running).

2515

  • Amber goes along with older kids as lookout on an orchard-raiding expedition. unfortunately, she's the one the cops catch - because they saw her give warning. She spends the afternoon in the police station cells (door open) while they wait for the circus folk to come get her. Wins three out of fifteen games of GO with various staff. That evening, one of the deputies offers to drop her back on his way home. They arrive to find the circus is wiped out, even the generator reduced to slag on its cement base, the ship missing, and no survivors.
  • Amber is placed in the Districts Orphanage in Hope Springs and given the automatic compliment of shots, vaccinations, medical exams, DNA sampling and bloodwork and contraceptive implant the board running it specifies. Since she arrives without records, the decide to make her official birthday Jan 1, 2005, as its the docs guess as to her physical age.
  • 'Settled in' to her new life an an orphan, Amber begins the usual placements. A week here, a few days there, everything from packing pottery to plucking chickens. Supposedly these are 'active training' opportunities. In reality, they're a way for the orphanage to make money.

2514

  • Summer Fever reappears in Hope Springs in what has become depressingly familiar pattern. MedRes asks for town volunteers to test the vaccine used on the orphans and mine contractees the year before. Dr. Julian donates manpower and time, and the town council writes him a personal letter of thanks for making the vaccine available.
  • When the Dawn Star Circus returns, its medic starts her own investigation into the Fever and vaccine. Several members of the circus are involved in a riot by contract workers drinking in town and are injured. Tigron security takes them back to medical facilities where they are treated.

2512

  • Michael Wu, along with several friends, start a company on Beylix refitting, converting, and repairing ships. They're good, but small, and plan on staying that way. Most are former Independents, with a couple of ex-Alliance hires.
  • A number of locals continue using the Circus medic when its down as backup for MedRes services. A request for their MedRes records by the circus doc who is curious about the Fever is refused, and MedRes warns them that it can take no responsibility for treatment it has not authorised.
  • A very bad year for Summer Fever. It seems to hit transient workers and orphans worst, and Dr. Caroline Tingwall authorises MedRes to test a possible vaccine on the orphans under care. A request for vaccine when the Dawn Star Circus lands is regretfully refused, due to limited supplies. However, the outbreak this year is minor, and MedRes isolates the few affected and treats them palliatively.

2511

  • Two Dawn Star Circus folk are murdered. Their bodies are discovered some distance from Hope Springs. They appear to have been shot and left for feral dogs to eat. No reason for the attack or perpetrator is ever found.
  • In mid May, after over two months of Independent forces (impossibly) holding position in Serenity Valley and a week of negotiations in which the injured and dying were left on the battlefield, the Alliance formally accepts surrender. Unification Day is celebrated in most Alliance strongholds, mourned in most others.
  • Transient workers hired for the market gardens and fruit picking go missing in Hope Springs. A few moving on don't raise eyebrows - but before they're paid? The place starts getting a bad name. Some growers turn to hiring contract workers from the mine to get their harvests in, and using kids from the orphanage.
  • The orphanage in Hope Springs becomes more commercialised and starts taking in overflow from city orphanges and court-declared 'children in need'. Population climbs to almost 1200 in the space of a year. Local long-term orphans remain at the old city building, the rest are placed in barracks near the mine site for evaluation before off-planet placement. The latter have no contact with townsfolk or local orphans.
  • MedRes becomes the only medical service available in Hope Springs when its old doctor retires. Its co-ordinator, Dr Julian, makes a personal visit to open the new facilities including a small hospital to care for the town, mine, processing plant and orphanage.

2510

  • While still sporadic, the rumours and stories - and whispered results - of Reaver attacks become well-knows enough along the Border Planets to become part of the mythology of the Rim. Of course, Alliance news never reports it, and local news stories tend to put it down to mercs gone bad, pirates, terrorists or military terror ops.
  • PharCorp expands its facilities and brings in several hundred new people. They remain on the compund and are shuttled to and from Hope Springs by private craft.
  • A group hits the Mines while the plague is in force. They put the mine into lockdown, threatening to set off explosives in the mine itself if not allowed to load up and leave. A number of the locals are also taken, since they apparently chosen the Foundation Day picnic celebrations in order to make sure there would be as little resistance as possible. Desperate, sick himself, the sherriff deputises a number of the Dawn Star folk to help. He is informed late the next day that everyone is released, the mine is OK, and the attackers are all dead. The local paper is persuaded not to print more than a paragraph on it. The accompanying picture shows the owner - Tsura - and her chief pilot Luca Grey by the shuttle as rescued locals are offloaded back in town.
  • The Dawn Star Circus leaves Paquin on its yearly circuit, and Luca Grey, Amber's father, is killed on Regina. Landing` to prep a safe exchange of drugs, a tragic misunderstanding with his passenger by the local independent mining camp leads to them both being beaten and hung as Corone spies. Two days later the main ship arrives and Tsura drops the drugs off, collects Luca's body, and takes most of the night to persuade her terrified grand-daughter to open the shuttle where she hid and came out. Amber is too young to really understand what she saw, but is still traumatised and relives the memories every time something cues them - from the smell of dust to raised voices or a crowd. Tsura realises what has happened, and begins trying to teach the girl how to handle it.

2509

  • Hope Springs: Rubies are discovered as the demand for marble falls, and mining switches to deep trenching and shafts to extract them. The town uses the rise in income to finance a geo-thermal power station, and begin draining the marshes to the south, turning them into prime market gardens. Tigron's contract is expanded to include mine and power station security.
  • The so-called 'Summer fever' hits Hope Springs. With the help of the Dawn Star Circus, the death toll in Hope Springs is low - but in the surrounding districts its a different story. Adults who recover have lungs left permanently damaged and some suffer neurological problems. Children are luckier, recovering without serious effects - only to suffer relapses over the next few years. Hope Springs votes to increase the size of the Orphange, and employ a company (MedRes, who are already providing medical care to Tigron employees) to run it and the town clinic for them, since there are now at least 80 kids without kith or kin in need of a home.

2508

  • Michael Wu, sitting on his tail end waiting for Browncoat ground forces to pick up his cargo of drugs and weapons, has a very bad day when found by an Alliance unit. THe day becomes even worse when they start asking pointed questions about where his cargo is from and who its going to, but improves when Browncoats arrive. Its the beginning of a (tense) friendship, as Michael shuttles them off planet in return. He finds himself unofficially conscripted into the Independant cause, and spends the next several years doing risky drops and pickups, mainly for scouting or intelligence units.
  • Tsura, acting a Second on Bernadette for Lord Callum who is disabled by a motor neurone disease, fights a duel for control of the Dawn Circus from its previous owners and wins, giving her 25% control of it when dies later in the year. (The original argument was over an accusation of cheating when the younger brother won the circus at Poker upon their father's death from the older, Jayce. The result is that within a year, the sole daughter inherits both their shares of his estate.) Tsura promptly heads Rimwards to establish the Dawn Star Circus as a popular and regular event on a loop between Paquin, the outer planets, and the Core, and when the Lady Claire inherits, Tsura buys out the rest of the Circus ownership with the help of a couple of companies who invest in it.
  • The Dawn Star Circus, seeking a 'wintering' place outside the city, buys land on the edge of Hope Springs as a stopover point. It makes its schooling and medical available to the locals, and gives free shows to try out new acts before going 'on the road' with them.

2507

  • In Hope Springs, growers begin farming a new strain of tobacco, engineered to produce biopharmaceuticals. The crop proves successful and highly profitable, and larger amounts are planted each year under agreements with a company called PharmCorp. Initial field secrurity is provided by Tiger Security (Tigron Inc). They bring in their own medical team (one nurse, one paramedic) which is set up in a small barracks compound nearby, along with lab and harvesting equipment.
  • Michele Fisher marries Tom Hamley, and they move to Hope Springs. He dies soon after, leaving her with a stepson at college and no income. She converts the home into a boarding house, 'Mrs. Hamleys', and concentrates on good food, clean beds, and no-nonsense. By June, she's partner in the brothel behind the boarding house, and by years end has taken effective control of its day to day running.

2506

  • Amber is born aboard ship on the last day of April, on its way back from the Rim to Bernadette.
  • A call for Miranda settlers is put out. New world: new cities: new life!
  • The War begins. Talks fail, and the Alliance decides resources are worth the cost of forcing Unification onto ungrateful colonists.
  • First whispers of Reavers, written off as 'just Rim Horror Stories'.

2504

  • Luca Grey, pilot for the Dawn Star Circus, and Paige Williams, one very bright and rising researcher, meet while she is surveying the Rim as a guest of the Circus.

2492

  • A number of riots and escape attempts lead to the employment of a personnel management company called Tigron, who take over effective control and pay the town a cut of profits. Employees now maintained wholly onsite and town has little contact with them. MedRes - Medical Resources Inc. - provide medical care to the contract labourers (slaves).

2490

  • Open cut mine producing facing stone opens in Hope Springs. Top quality marble is extracted, along with serpentine for the gem trade. Contract labour is imported to extract it. Demand exceeds local ability to supply, and a partner is found to increase production.

2489

  • Adam Michaels, now 16, finally gets his chance. He betrays his 'crewmates' to settlers they were going to raid and in thanks is given a new name by them - Michael Wu, one of their young men who were killed in the attack. Michael Wu celebrates his new life by doing what the settlers are reluctant to: he executes the captured and injured ex-crewmates. From the front, so they can see death coming.
  • Michele Fisher goes with Muchael Wu as far as Paquin, and uses her share of the credits wisely. She invests some, and uses some of it to pay for decent clothes and hire out as help to a widowed accountant.

2488

  • Adam Michaels, reluctant slaver, is given a 'present' by the crew of the ship. Michele Fisher, a trouble maker, is made his responsibility after her latest scape attempt. Both of them recognise a potential ally in the other, and grimly settle down to waiting for opportunity.

2483

  • Young Adam Michaels and his family are among those settlers picked up by slavers from Bernadette. When they discover whats happened, there's a riot and several are killed. Adam is pressed into service as a replacement general dogs-body and go-fer. His father then kills himself and his family before they can be made an example of.
