Description

This man has brown hair and hazel eyes with dark bags around them indicating a lack of sleep. He has facial hair that looks somewhat scruffy shaped into a 5 o'clock shadow, making him appear thuggish. He is fit but not overly muscular and could be called slender by some. This Eastern European man stands around 5 feet 11 inches. There is a scar running through his left brow. His hair is shaved close to his head, facial features harsh and mean looking. There is a constant scowl on his face.

He wears green cargo pants with a number of pockets on them. A black utility/gun belt, simple black t-shirt, and a well worn brown long coat with a a large collar. Dark leather fingerless gloves rest over his hands and sometimes a gray beanie wool cap can be seen atop his shaven head. Black steel toed combat boots, worn heavily in places, keep his feet safe from the elements. Impax 'Tactical' armor plates and pads are placed strategically over his T-shirt and pants yet under his jacket.

History

Niko was born March 17th 2486 into a poor working class family in one of the many little Serbia's that propped up inside Beaumonde. His father Androv, an abusive alcoholic, worked at a Steel Mill when he wasn't taking out his problems on his Wife and children. His mother, Felina, was an unhappy maid for an upper class family.

An only child but had several cousins, his favorite Roman, was always was getting into some sort of trouble. Niko would often have to protect him from some gang, usually getting beat up or robbed himself. He picked up a penchant for street fighting. He always looked a bit smug and thuggish even as a kid. People thought he was up to no good most of the time, this caused trouble for him.

When he was old enough to work, he did. A higher education was not expected from poor factory workers even though Niko was bright enough. He was destined to work and toil at the local Steel company with his father and cousins. To be expected, the non-Serbian workers would try to beat him up or cheat him our of his pay. Racists, they hated the Serbians and were favored by the work bosses. His constant fights lead him to develop a heightened sensitivity in his perception, Lightning Reflexes. The pollution was troubling and it took the life of his father shortly before he turned 16. He had to drop out of public school and take up a full time position at the mill in order to provide for him and his mother.

A rise in rent and the lower wages from the barons who owned the Steel Mill caused tension amongst the workers. Niko began getting into the local Russian Mafia as a errand boy to earn more money. He was not considered pure enough by some of the more prestigious members which caused conflict and more than a few physical encounters. He ended up in jail on multiple occasions and most of the money he made ended up going towards bailing him and others out of jail or paying off sleazy lawyers. He was also involved in forming a workers union to support better working conditions which just happened to be heavily connected to the mob. In no time the mob had control of the Factory with Niko still in a shitty lower level position despite all he did for them. At least they taught him Russian.

The Mafia sent some of their younger enforcers to fight in the war, forming a 'Volunteer' Para-military Militia in which Niko was 'conscripted' for services to the Independent forces. He really didn't care about the war too much. He was trained in Krav Maga along with a proficiency in firearms. His militia smuggled supplies and looted Alliance towns they occupied and robbed banks in raids, set up criminal operations in order to destabilize the Alliance economy and make money. He committed and witnessed horrible atrocities against innocent men, women, and children the memories of which would later cause him to develop horrible Nightmares. All was lucrative except for Niko who never seemed to be able to hang onto the money. Not by fault of his own, the Mafia demanded protection payments for his mother's 'safety'. Until the Alliance won causing them to succeed all territory they possessed to them, The Mafia fractured. Niko in another stroke of his usually rough and tumble life, was thrown in jail again, for war crimes committed during the war. It was a long sentence

Roman in the mean time had made his way to Persephone where he got into a Slaver ring. After getting out of jail, Niko and his comrades from the war followed up on Roman's offer to work with him. He was betrayed and ambushed for a great sum of money during a job. He was nearly killed. Him and his friends; Darko Brevic and Florian Cravic were the only ones left alive. One of them betrayed him and to this day he does not know who. The head of the slaver ring thinks Niko ran off with his money, causing him to look over his shoulder more than usual resulting in a full fledged case of Insomnia. He now searches for them to find out who betrayed him and maybe get to hold onto his money for once and have a stroke of good luck in his life. Peace and quiet.
