Sorry it took so long for me to get things started with Verse Through the Black. Some stuff happened aboard my ship and a few bullets were exchanged. Anyhow, enough procrastination; let's get this started! I'm ready to start the 'newsletter' portion of the group. So here's how it'll work:

1) If any of you have work that you'd like to share, send it my way. The main focus of this group is poetry, but I'll also accept music, short fiction, and other artwork.

2) Tell me how you want to be credited for your work. This can be your real name, a pseudonym, or just anonymous.

3) If you want to give other members the option of waving you outside the newsletter, let me know. This is completely optional, and the Cortex addresses of those wanting to share will be listed at the bottom of the newsletter.

4) Newsletters will not be released on a regular schedule. They'll be sent out whenever I get enough content to justify sending one.

OOC: I plan on posting a copy of each newsletter on the Wiki. If you have something that you'd like circulated in the newsletter but not posted on the Wiki, let me know.

<<A text-only wave from MrKeating>>

Hello poetry lovers. I'm sure you've all been anxiously checking your inboxes, wondering if anything would become of this group. Well, wonder no more! I'm still alive, and I am following through with this.

Baud Laire sends us this first poem, along with his greetings. It is believed to be from Earth-That-Was, but the original author couldn't be identified.

The life that I have
Is all that I have
And the life that I have
Is yours

The love that I have
Of the life that I have
Is yours and yours and yours

A sleep I shall have
A rest I shall have
Yet death will be but a pause

For the peace of my years
In the long green grass
Will be yours and yours
And yours

The next poem is one of my own personal favorites. Although the actual origins are debated, it is often attributed to a pastor from Earth-That-Was named Martin Niemoller.

In Germany they first came for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.

Then they came for me --
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

Baud Laire has been kind enough offer contact information, for anyone who wishes to contact him. I encourage you all to keep up the submissions, and maybe even share some of your own personal work. And please do have any friends of yours who might be interested in this contact me.
