Talk:The Coming Storm

A general idea of what I'm trying to accomplish and the goals of this plot can be found here.

Rules

Please keep in mind that some of the scenes you partake in may be hectic. As such, there are a few rules and policies I would like you to keep in mind.

First and foremost, be polite and courteous. If you feel your message is not getting across, try to reword it. If you start an ooc conversation that looks as though it will turn into an argument, or any sort of in-depth discussion, please move it to a channel, or pages.

Special People

During the first episode and, possibly, for further episodes, I'm going to ask that certain "special people" execute code I've written up.

If you think you're one of these "special people," please contact me. But as it stands, event staff and Alliance are the only ones who should be worried about this.

  Code
   &testcode`type me=<group code>
   @set me/testcode**=visual
   Alliance Group Code=m
   Event Staff Group Code=y

+emit Rose walks down the street, examining the prettypretty flowers. "How pretty pretty!" she says.

Special Things

See that guy who just gave you a funny look? Go ahead and punch him. Really, I don't mind. But if you're going to start "drama" (read: punch some guys lights out), I'm going to politely ask that you move to an adjacent room. I'll ensure that you're still updated on the "main event," if you want, and I'll ensure that the main room is (in brief poses) updated on what you and your combatant are doing...but to ensure things don't get too hectic, that sort of behavior will have to be partitioned off to make life a little easier on all of us.

On that same side of the coin, any mediation that isn't directly involving the scene at hand should be dealt with between the effected players. If you'd like to persuade the gambler to lend you a little more money, you and that player should discuss things and come to a fair agreement.

What are some things that will effect the event at hand? Interactions with the Alliance (doing something naughty like dealing drugs, or wielding weapons), interactions with the race (sabotage, etcetera), or interactions with any "key players" (you'll know them when you see them). This isn't to say you SHOULDN'T do any of those things-- just that those are the only events where you'd need to either contact myself or an admin. Otherwise, I trust y'all to mediate things well enough on your own.

Special Things pt 2

Do you know, for sure, you are going to take a particular action during the event? Contact me in advance. I would prefer, wherever possible, to make taskrolls before the scene happens to keep things going smooth and easy (are you noticing a pattern here?). This means I'll be meeting with both Alliance and Racer teams in advance...but this certainly doesn't exclude you! Just make sure to contact me in advance, so we can make life easier for everyone! :)

Feedback

It's important to consider that this plot is being run in a somewhat different manner than might be the norm. It is, if you will, a "baby plot." If there's something about it that you don't particularly like, please, tell me! I promise I won't bite! And your feedback helps us shape further "episodes," and refine the way things are run!

I understand that it's sometimes difficult to reconcile your feelings with a plot, with the fear of backlash or general ignorance. As such, I ask that all feedback be directed to this website--

Please, be as detailed as possible in your feedback. "Your TP Totally Sucks" will be ignored. "Your TP Totally Sucks Because It Had Poor Timing" will be greatly appreciated. When the above site asks for an e-mail, please use...

  • So basically my biggest problem with this was that starting the race knowing how it was going to end prior to even beginning sapped a lot of the fun out of it. I liked pulling the racers into the other room, and your organizational skills are clearly top notch. I just would have liked the outcome to have been less certain.
  • The TP you ran was okay until the hell broke out. The reason I say it wasn't advertised properly is the way most people read it (and several people agree with this)"Everyone will have a chance at the action!" But when it came down to it, were told no only alliance. Then we had to have permission to pose? It should have been more clear if only alliance people were going to be able to get in on the nitty gritty. I'm honestly tired of plots where my characters do nothing and can't be involved. Everyone would like to be injured. It's part of the draw. But to be totally blocked is wrong.
  • I enjoyed the TP. I think it was a good idea to take the racers to another room as I imagine trying to do their race poses would have been difficult when there was a huge scene spamming past. There were a few misunderstandings from time to time but that happens when not using a timestop. Timestop would have taken forever in this case and the 3 pose worked well for the 'crowd'. I also liked having the race/announcer and the Alliance in a distinct color as it helped emensely in keeping track of some things. In a scene this big the only hope of getting all the poses read and enjoyed is logging but that doesn't help a darn bit in the heat of the moment. Good job. You tried a novel thing or two that worked well in my opinion.
  • Your plot was pretty good overall. I liked the colored poses, but it presents two problems -- some people had trouble reading the purple text (I even know one person who turned off color for the scene), and there were issues getting people to run the code. Instead of setting attributes on each character, maybe you should have an '+apose' command for alliance people and '+spose' for event staff. Instead of coloring the entire pose, you should just perpend the pose with a purple ALLIANCE or a yellow STAFF. -- Now for the scene itself. Like you said in your bbpost, you had 5 hours of a /huge/ scene pass in only 2.5 hours of RL time. Congratulations on that. This was by far the best big combat scene I've ever been in. That being said, it was still extremely hectic and draining. I don't know how you can make a scene with 20 people not hectic, but what you've done is certainly a good start. -- I look forward to seeing more of this plot. And I hope that it'll lead to Alliance people doing something other than hang with themselves and doing weapons licenses.
  • Just kind of wish it would have been possible to get involved somehow, even if only in a small way. All the same, Kudos for running it.
  • Hi Rose, -- The anonymous feedback site had a lot of broken images and such for me so I decided to cut the middle man and send my feedback straight to you via e-mail. -- On the whole I found the event to be entertaining and successful. I thought the idea of having the racers in one room and the crowd in the other to be a unique and interesting way to cut down on pose spam. With that said... I found the announcer emits to be kind of hard to follow and would like to have seen more of the racing action than was re-posed in the crowd room. I'm not sure how best to reconcile that, though, short of allowing folks to pick which room they wanted to be in and asking the crowd in the racing room to pose sparingly. -- I liked the use of color to make certain things stand out. I'm not sure why all the Alliance PC poses had to be colored, as they were often no more important than the spectators since they were just doing standard event security stuff, talking to each other on coms and whatnot. It might have been more helpful to have their specific actions that would directly affect spectators colored, such as when they started herding people out, busting out the big guns, and yelling orders, etc. -- Anyhow, on the whole I had a very fun night despite having no combat skills whatsoever. Thanks for taking the time to undertake such a mammoth effort!
  • I liked the way you just gave me a rough idea of what's happening with the prisoner, and let me fill in the details. This allows the plot to move forward while you're gone, lets other people feel like they've got a hand in running it, and most importantly -- it helps the GM focus on the main story rather than tying up every loose end. That seems necessary for the kind of large-scale thing you're trying to run. I hope to see many more bits of this plot that can be run without your presence; I know it can be difficult to give up control, but in the end I think it's what you need to do in order to keep people involved in this plot.
  • I actually thought that having the set pieces of the NPCs and the Alliance poses in different colors was great. I would suggest more contrast between the 'pose' and 'say' colors for ease of reading though. When a scene is that big it is almost impossible to read everything without a timestop, which can make a scene last forever. Sometimes there will be three and four poses hitting at once. This made keeping track of some of the main protaganists and your own 'group' easier. Let's face it, a lot of characters are going to be keeping an eye on the Alliance and large gatherings seem a magnet for bad guys. I thought it was an excellent handling of the situation.

Discussion/Planning

I'd like to get as many people to run their own "mini-plots" as much as possible. This is in keeping with the concept that this should be every players story to tell. If you have questions or comments, go ahead and post them here. If I can help you run something for you and your friends, I will happily do so, until I return and run something for the public.
