Description

Leanna is a slender young woman, not holding much weight to her. She's just under average height and appears delicate, but perhaps that gives her the reflex and agility. Although small and frail, she doesn't exactly appear undernourished. Her narrow face, with its pointed, sharp noise and small, thick lips makes her almost appear like a sparrow. Her doe brown eyes can almost appear amber in the light, sharp and alert. She has a mass of thick, wavy hair. The honey coloured tresses are often poofy, as she doesn't give it too much time, kept too short to pull off her face. It can sometimes be combed into neater order, depending on who she is meeting or where she is working

Personality

The first impression Leanna might give off is a fearful, weak, uncertain young woman. She tends to prefer to hide and to keep to the shadows and is, by far, most comfortable when she’s going unnoticed. She has become more confident in herself, especially dealing with bargaining off her information, but she has a fear of open spaces, one that she tries to keep a rein on. She doesn’t easily trust others, always skeptical and expecting betrayal, suspicious of people’s true intentions. She tries to be strong, and can often try to show her strength just as easily as show herself as intimidated, depending on what is necessary for survival.

History

Leanna was born on a border planet, where her parents spent most of their day labouring, their hard earned coin going straight to buy food to feed their hungry bellies. Her mother took it in stride, just trying to survive, but her father dreamed of something better, believed in a better life, of owning a ship and getting himself a crew. They started out as low-born. Merely servants, having no valuables of their own except for the gift they were blessed with: their daughter. Not that they saw it as a gift at the time. Raising a baby was just too much work for them. Besides, they wanted more for Leanna than they could give.

In her early years, when Leanna was still just a baby, her father, Vincent, mined minerals while her mother, Mira, did other chores. The busy day’s work made caring for Leanna tricky. Her mother persisted, finding the time, even though that brought about arguments. Leanna’s father could see that it was too much to handle, had wanted to be married and living better than this before they had a child, and kept urging Mira to give her up. Slowly, over time, Vincent was wearing her down, the stress and doubt weighing on her. His plans to start new came to fruition when a chance was presented to them. He joined a crew - true, he wasn’t the leader, but it would do - and left. He tried to get Mira to join, but she was too apprehensive about leaving, to uncertain. Her home world was a place of familiarity. She missed her opportunity to head out, but it didn’t hold back Vincent. Sure, it hurt when he chose the crew and leaving over her, but she didn’t really hold it against him.

It was only Mira looking after the baby now. She no longer had Vincent to work and share the food he could buy when she could not. She had friends, other workers, but they, too, had their hands full with their duties. But together, they were able to raise Leanna, and she grew up raised by the village women. Until the day something happened to her mom. She definitely didn’t understand what happened to her mother; she just all of a sudden snapped. Like the stress was just too much to happen. She became mean and angry all the time and all Leanna could do was cower. She spent most of her time hiding.

Leanna was hiding nearby when the ship landed. She saw a confident man talking to her mother. An opposing man, so sure of himself, with a fierce look in his eyes as he stubbornly insisted on taking my mother with him. Certainly Leanna didn’t want to lose her mother, but she was also afraid of that man. So she watched as her mother was urged onto the ship, telling herself to run after her and to stop the man from taking her. But as the ship took off all Leanna did was stay hidden, forming a guilty conscious for letting that man leave with her mother.

Leanna just kept hidden. She watched the other villagers work, listening to conversations she probably wasn’t meant to hear. She heard herself mentioned in some conversations, some women wondering where the ‘girl’ went or expressing their surprise and opinions to her mother leaving her behind. She even learned who the man had been, apparently her father. Everyone seemed to forget about her as time went on. Sometimes a bit of food would go missing, as Leanna took just a little.

She was hiding nearby when she saw a disturbing scene. A man hurting another, beating on him and demanding he ‘hand it over.’ Another arrived and scared the abusive man off, helping the victim, who assured that some device was safe. She vaguely heard something about the device being key to rebelling. When all had departed, Leanna came out of her hiding place, feeling a little unnerved. She came across the abusive man and froze with fear. Apparently he had friends with him now, but none of them, for the most part, paid her much heed, except to ask her if she saw the other two and where they went. She told them and in appreciation one of the men handed her coin, telling her to get something nice. That’s how it started for her. She soon realised what storing and giving information could do for her. At first she only asked for food in exchange, but as she kept at it she got bolder.

She was really good at gathering information, be it gossip or something more important, but the villagers soon realised that she was there. She could only do so much on the small world where she was known. She slowly got better at knowing who would want to hear what, but she vowed that the first chance she got she’d head to other places. So as soon as she got enough coin together, she hopped on a shuttle and was off. She learned other skills to help her become a good information broker, sometimes pretending she was someone else. She did prefer to stay hidden. She often felt too vulnerable of the too open areas, and she has a difficult time trusting anyone.
