Hydroponics Wheel

A slowly turning wheel, this unit has 25 racks of rockwool each one capable of supporting 4 medium to large size plants or 7 small ones. The wheel passes through a tub at the base at a rate of about once per hour, drenching the slabs in nutrient solution. A grow light in the center provides a tiny, constant sun around which the plants rotate, the ones at the top hanging upside down as they pass overhead. Cobbled together out of various scraps and cannibalized parts of other systems, it doesn't have the clean lines of a commercially produced product. The racks are made of different colors of metal, two of them are actually plastic, the chains used to keep the wheel turning have different sizes of links, and the cables plugging into the power outlet are obviously homemade. Just as obviously, however, it is lovingly cared for and kept in excellent condition.
