ICly, the Guan-Yin's mission is to provide medical care to those in need. This is done regardless of faction, politics or financial means. This means that we may sometimes take on patients who are (or may be) criminals, or nobles, or Alliance personnel. Politics, like weapons, are expected to be checked at the door.

The ship's crew is a tight-knit group which feels more like a family than a crew. Ideals such as goodwill and service for others are valued. Some of the crew are pacifists, while others will take up arms for our defense - though only as a last resort. This is not a hard-partying, shoot-em-up sort of group, and if that's the sort of RP you're looking for there are other ships out there that will probably suit you better.

We strive for high-quality roleplay, including good character interaction and development. We participate in TPs on the game, and try to run our own sometimes, as well as having active story lines going on aboard the ship. Unique character concepts and types are welcome, we'll be glad to work with you on finding a niche on our crew and the game.

All new crew members start with a trial period of approximately one (RL) month, to make sure there is a good "fit" between the player, character concept, and crew dynamic.

Crew Policies

The following crew policies can be taken as IC information, which will be provided to all new crew members when they join our ship. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to talk to one of the ship's senior staff about things.

OOC Note: With these rules, bear in mind both RP-First and ICA=ICC. These are the IC policies on board the ship, for what should and shouldn't happen. The intent is not to restrict RP, and we know people don't want to spend their time double checking things for the sake of the rules. We can OOCly work around stuff (like having coded weapons on you, and saying you don't) for the sake of RP. Of course, if your character pulls out a gun in the medbay, that's where ICA=ICC comes in. If we're mature about this, it can enhance rather than hinder our RP. Thanks.

Treatment Policies

  • All necessary medical treatment is free, period (anything other than elective procedures).
  • As much as possible, doctors should not treat close friends, partners or family members. This tends to make things complicated, and can lead to poor decision making. These patients can be passed to other doctors on board. (OOC: this guideline is one that might be difficult at times, if only one doctor is online when an IC friend of theirs needs treatment. This is understandable, and shouldn't stop RP or treatment from happening. It's just that ICly, it does make sense for any hospital or doctor to try and follow this guideline.)
  • Crew members should not enter into intimate relationships with patients on board. If this occurs, disciplinary action will be determined based on the circumstances.
  • The Guan-Yin will not ever perform an abortion unless the pregnancy poses a life threatening risk to the mother.
  • Any medical supplies or equipment in the medical bay can be used by the crew. Please keep things clean and organized, and alert someone if we run out of stock in anything (ooc: please return coded medical supplies to the locker when done with them, so that they will be available for others to use.)

Weapon Policies

  • Crew are permitted to own and carry weapons if: they know how to properly use and safely store those weapons, and are properly licensed for those weapons (if necessary) by the Alliance.
  • Crew is encouraged to keep weapons stored in their quarters or the weapon check in the cargo bay unless the ship is under a heightened security alert. Security staff is expected to carry suitable arms while on duty. Bear in mind that our mission is peaceful, and the use of weapons on board or in the ship's name should always be a last resort.
  • Weapons and armor can be issued from the ship's armory as deemed necessary by senior staff. Items issued on a temporary basis should be returned when the conditions for those items being released no longer apply (ie, at the end of a TP). Items issued on a long term basis must be returned or reimbursed upon resignation or termination of the crew member. Crew members are encouraged to purchase their own equipment, to assist the ship in keeping costs at a minimum.
  • The Captain and Chief of Security reserve the right to restrict any particular types of weapons or set additional requirements on a case by case basis, as needed for the protection of our ship, crew and patients.

Other Policies

  • Violence on board, particularly if it is directed at patients, will be met with immediate steps to restore order. Disciplinary action may be taken as appropriate to the situation.
  • Sexual harassment and discrimination of any kind are not welcome on board.
  • There is no smoking in public areas of the ship, especially the medical wing. If you must smoke, please keep it to your private quarters. If we are landed, please step away from the cargo ramp before lighting up, as a courtesy to other crew, guests and patients.
  • There should be no illegal drug use on board. Random drug tests are possible, and anyone found to be using will be expected to go through treatment.
  • Alcohol should not be brought into the medical wing. Otherwise, there is no policy against drinking on board. Crew members should not perform medical procedures, attempt to fly the ship, or do similar things while intoxicated.
  • Policies may be added or modified as needed.
