History

Built entirely in the DAS labs on Londinium, the DAS-10 Botweiller is a prototype robotic canine designed primarily for search and rescue and sniffing out dangerous drugs and explosives. The idea behind the project, led by Axel Cho was that the robotic canine could go places a human could not, would withstand hostile environments, and could carry sophisticated sensors in the hopes that the robot could save lives of both the officer handler and any civilians. While Axel was the chief engineer on the project, he couldn't have succeeded without help. Suzi Flynn, the chief computer specialist at the Londinium base wrote nearly all the core programming for the bot and it was her software that allowed the bot to incorporate the molecular analyzer and multi-optics cameras in the bot's 'eyes'. Much to Axel's dismay, she is also the one who programmed the bot with the ability to actually talk to its handler via the wrist-mounted computer issued along with the bot. So far there has only been one of these created, though after successful testing and near-perfect performance in the field during the crisis on Paquin, there is a chance that a few more will be built.

Description

Built for search and rescue, and based upon the general size and shape of a large Rottweiler, the DAS-10 Bottweiler is the newest in designs by the Department of Alliance Security. Carbon nanotube armor covers the majority of the robotic dog with mesh joints. While not indestructible, the bot was designed to take quite a bit of abuse. The jaws are of a titanium alloy with a small hydraulic piston giving a great deal of power and control to a bite, allowing the bot to clamp on to something without crushing it or letting go.

The dog's eyes glow in different colors, varying upon which multi-optics band the cameras concealed behind them are set upon. Green for active nightvision, yellow for low-light or in situations where it is more beneficial to see in full color, or ultra-violet or even the infra-red spectrums. A pair of nostrils are hooked into a molecular analyzer, which when engaged does make the bot sound like he is panting as it cycles air in through the computerized filters. Powerful legs, also covered in the carbon nanotube and mesh armor end at large 'paws'. With a mesh padding and treads, each foot is equipped with small retractable claws and light electromagnets for added traction. Both the small ears and stubby tail of the dog hold various sensor systems and twitch and move as they scan the bot's immediate surroundings.

A metallic collar wraps around the bot's neck with a small titanium plate hanging from it. The plate, on one side reads Dioji with the reverse stating "If found return to nearest Alliance field office and prepare for compensation after debriefing." Usual interface is via wrist computer on the handler, but the bot is capable of autonomous action due to a limited AI. It can and will emit a very loud bark and through the wrist-comp interface can talk to the handler in the sense the wrist-comp translates the information it receives into an audio file.
