Description [[WeaponDescription::The latest incarnation of the venerable M16 line from Earth-That-Was is the M4A17, which mainly incorporates new materials and processes rather than significantly changing the design of the weapon. The lower reciever is constructed of black anodized aluminum with a machined upper carrier and bolt assembly, while the shortened carbine barrel is hardened stainless steel with helical venting to bleed off the heat generated by automatic fire. Like the original weapon in this series, it is a gas operated select fire, magazine fed weapon, with an ambidextrous selector to the rear of the grip, and the magazine eject button forward of the trigger assembly. Like the M16A3, the M4 series adopted the 'flat top' upper reciever with picatinney rail system and a removable carrier handle which can be replaced with a variety of optics. The compact, light weight construction and use of composites for the butt and foregrip make this a particular favourite for shooters who need mobility with the accuracy of a longer barrel. This weapon was the stardard issue weapon of the Independant Army during the Unification War.]]
