About the Kris

Kris Shena is an alliance of several organized clans of Romani scattered throughout the 'verse. There be other groups out there, but this is probably the largest.

Organization

The Kris Shena is a misnomer in that the Kris is the governing body of most of the Romani in the verse. The Romani are truly democratic with one person one vote. The Congress is made up of anywhere from 250 to 500 members who are selected form both clans and familia units to represent their group. They get together when necessary to discuss anything that might affect those Romani who chose to belong to the Kris. Once the Congress comes to a decision it is sent out in the form of a vote to every Romani aged 16 and over to get a consensus. The vote is always a yes or no vote. A yes vote means that the person approves. A no vote means that the person voting has no confidence in the question. Even if passed no Romani has to abide by the vote. When the Romani interact with other governmental bodies they send a Voivode or a “Prince” to act as Ambassador. These Voivodes have no power to speak for all the Romani, but they work as a go between with either the Congress or the Kris to come to some decision. The Kris make the decisions that have to be made immediately and cannot wait for a full vote of the people. They are the Judges and jury of criminal acts as well as mediators for civil problems with in the Romani.
