Spitfire's History

The Spitfire has had an interesting history. It was built by the Alliance before the war of Unification, then 'leased' under security contract to the planetary government of Santo. When war broke out, Santo allied with the Independents and Spitfire became a Browncoat ship. She saw some damage, but nothing serious, and ended up surviving the war in one piece. When the Alliance won, they decommissioned her, and sold her to private concerns.

It passed hands over the next decade or so, ending up being used last by bounty hunters before it was 'traded' in for a less maintenance-heavy ship. It sat on Boros, rotting for half a year, until her old Browncoat captain, Bob Bruce, came to rescue her. He was old and dying from terminal illness, but he'd made a pretty penny since the days of the War. He wasn't going to go to his grave knowing Spitfire was languishing in some forgotten junkyard, not after all they'd been through during those hard years. He purchased the APC2.

Realizing the disease that gripped him was killing him faster than expected, Mr. Bruce contacted his old XO, Eduardo Luz, and made Eduardo promise him to fix Spitfire, then gave him the ship in his will. Maybe there was a curse on the ship's crew or something, but as soon as Eduardo had ownership of the Spitfire, he was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer that was untreatable. He had a couple months to live on the outside. Eduardo made his son, Rico, promise to get Spitfire flying again.

But, when Eduardo passed on, Rico let Spitfire sit in the shipyard, collecting bills and rust. Rico's mother, Rosita, begged him to make good on his father's promise numerous times, and Rico would apologize then promise to get started on it. But, somewhere between his promise and the next day's arrival, his words would be forgotten. Desperate to do something as the bills mounted from the shipyard, Rosita called on her niece, Morrie. As it turned out, Rico owed Morrie a "favor", and she was collecting. Rico obliged without a fuss. The Spitfire was soon operational and launched, Morrie as captain.

Current Events

Apr 2522: Violence explodes aboard Spitfire as tension between the captain, Morrie, and her chief pilot, Ramon, result in a point-blank, free-for-all firefight in the crew area. It's effects ripple in ways unanticipated, or even ineffable, as Vallen and Davin turn on their captain, refusing to follow her orders to escort former crewman, Mantissa, off the ship. Badly wounded from this act of mutiny, Morrie is saved by Samantha in surgery while Richard, the XO, restores order to the ship. Vallen and Davin willingly enter the brig until judgement can be passed. Before that can happen, however, Izak attempts to free the mutinous pair aboard Spitfire, overriding ship's systems in creating power loss as distraction while Vallen and Davin try to flee. Their plan runs into a snag when Marcos and Ramon encounter them in the hold as cargo is loaded. Another firefight ensues, resulting in both Vallen and Izak escaping to become Alliance fugitives, while Davin falls to gunfire and dies. Many of the crew are bitter, and several claim to be done with the ship, as perceptions, assumptions and truth mix into an overall atmosphere of uncertainty over Spitfire's future. (logs here)

What follows after the breakout at Eavesdown Docks is confusing. One story is that Los Tres wanted to be rid of Spitfire, considering it cursed, and after quiet negotiations between Morrie and Richard, her former XO, the APC2 passed on to new owners. Another story is that Alliance stepped in, seizing the ship after Morrie's cousin, Rico Luz, decided he wanted the ship back after all (now that Morrie had done the work of getting Spitfire operational again). What seems certain is that Morrie, Ramon, and Marcos are, indeed, done with the Spitfire. They have been spotted on Boros in the Boneyards, apparently working on a dragonfly vessel. One source has said that when she inquired about their ship, Spitfire, Los Tres turned strangely silent and Morrie said something to the effect of "we do not speak of it anymore."

What is almost certain is that the decommissioned APC2 will ply the Black once more. Now that she has been restored through the efforts of Los Tres, Spitfire will draw the attention of some captain out there, cursed or not. She may be La Cabrona, but she is a most fine one and with a touch of class as well.
