About Us

Kal's Custom Weapons has been serving the citizens of the Allied Planets from their shop at Persephone's Eavesdown Docks for more than 10 years. Whether you're looking to have a family heirloom restored, have some cosmetic work done to make your signature weapon more distinct, or modify the functionality and/or accuracy of your weapon, we're here to help. We work with both firearms and bladed weapons, and can do armor customization as well! No order too small.

FAQ

Can you sell me a gun?

We do not stock firearms and have no vendor in our shop, but if you are willing to wait we can order pretty much anything for you as long as you are licensed to carry it. Also, if you are looking for something uncommon or rare we can probably track it down for you. Most of our customers bring their weapons to us for customization, but if you want us to build you something from the ground up we can do that too.

How much do custom blades cost?

That is a complicated question. Our catalog lists our prices for custom crafted blades with stock stats, accuracy guaranteed at 100% or higher, depending on what the base is for the weapon. This will be a well balanced high quality blade, crafted by Kallahan. A masterwork blade with maxed out stats will run you about 30k credits. Mid-range is about 11k credits. Everything else is somewhere in between. You can spend as much or as little as you like, depending on the stats you want.

Why is it so complicated?

We have to spend money and make rolls for every blade we produce. The more powerful the weapon, the harder the rolls and the greater the possibility of multiple attempts required for success. Since we lose money each time we fail, we have to build the cost of failure into the final product. As such, the lower level customs are cheaper than the higher level ones, point for point.

Can I upgrade my custom blade later?

Unfortunately, no. Once the blade is crafted, its stats are fixed and cannot be modified the way that firearms can.

What are the maximum stats available for custom blades?

All custom blades have 100% accuracy or the base for the blade template, whichever is higher. (Generally, 100-110%) The maximum Penetration for a custom blade is 5. The maximum damage/stun for a custom blade is +30%.

Why is damage/stun for custom blades expressed as a percentage?

Melee weapon damage is based on strength, so it varies depending on who is holding the weapon. The base percentage is invisible to us when we look at the weapon, all we see is the damage as calculated based on our strength. However, if you are holding the weapon and its damage is 10, divide that by your strength to find out the base % for the weapon. Then you can see how adjusting the percentage would scale that up. (Strength x % = damage). You can calculate stun the same way.

Example: Your strength is 40 and you are holding a Katana that says it does 9 damage and 5 stun. 9/40 = 22% & 5/40 = 12%. To go a step farther, you can compute that a masterwork katana with the maximum upgrade to damage possible would be 52% damage, 32% stun. For a 40 strength character, this would be 20 damage & 12 stun.

What is Penetration?

A weapon's Penetration rating is direct armor penetration. Armor 'soaks' damage (see Protection & Stability, below), and Penetration counters armor point for point. Level 2 Penetration is good for around -1 protection and -1 stability, but will vary depending on the level of the penetration involved.

Example: Kal is wearing an Armored Duster with a Protection rating of 5 and a Stability rating of 2. He is shot by a weapon that does 10 wound damage and 5 stun with 2 points of Penetration. Kal takes 3 wound damage and 0 stun.

What are Protection & Stability?

Armor's Protection rating is applied toward incoming wound damage, reducing it by the rating. Similarly, armor's Stability rating is applied toward incoming stun damage, reducing it by the rating.

Example: Kal is wearing an Armored Duster with a Protection rating of 5 and a Stability rating of 2. He is shot by a weapon that does 10 wound damage and 5 stun. He takes 5 wound damage and 3 stun, after armor is factored in. (+attack adjusts for equipped armor automatically, so normally there is no need to compute.)
