IComm Guide
iComm Communicator code (aka iComms) are used for IC communication across the Verse. They can be purchased at many NPC vendors, and cost between 80 and 160 credits.
The default iComm looks like this:
iComm - #### /-------------------- iComm - #### ---------------------\ | | | | | FRQ Name Encryption Key | | This communications unit is: ON | \-----| |-----/ | IDC: ON | | com/help for more info. | \-------------------------------------------/
Contents
Adding a channel
- Syntax: com/addchan <frequency>
Every 'channel' has a frequency. The default general traffic is 100.00. To add it, you type com/addchan 100.00
Once you've done that, look at your iComm again and you will see the new channel.
iComm - #### /-------------------- iComm - #### ---------------------\ | | | | | FRQ Name Encryption Key | | 1 100.00 - General Traffic | | This communications unit is: ON | \-----| |-----/ | IDC: ON | | com/help for more info. | \-------------------------------------------/
The number 1 just to the left of the FRQ designation is your channel number. You'll use this (not the frequency) when you talk on the channels. More on that later. Every ship, organization and group has their own frequency. It's like Ham Radio.
Encryptions
- Syntax: com/setenc <channel>=<key>
By now you've also noticed there's an Encryption Key column on your iComm. That's for use with ships and other groups who would rather not have everyone in the verse listen in to their conversations. While the general channel is unencrypted, let's say you've joined the ship McGuffin, and it has the channel 245.67. After you add it, your iComm will look like this.
iComm - #### /-------------------- iComm - #### ---------------------\ | | | | | FRQ Name Encryption Key | | 1 100.00 - General Traffic | | 2 245.67 - | | This communications unit is: ON | \-----| |-----/ | IDC: ON | | com/help for more info. | \-------------------------------------------/
If you try talking on it now, all that will come out is gibberish and static. Asking your Captain for the key, you find out it's 'parcourse', so you set your key: com/setenc 2=parcourse and if you look at your iComm again, you'll see it listed.
iComm - #### /-------------------- iComm - #### ---------------------\ | | | | | FRQ Name Encryption Key | | 1 100.00 - General Traffic | | 2 245.67 - parcourse | | This communications unit is: ON | \-----| |-----/ | IDC: ON | | com/help for more info. | \-------------------------------------------/
Description
- Syntax: com/setdesc <channel>=<description>
For many channels, the Name is left blank. And since most of us can't be bothered to remember that 245.67 is the channel for McGuffin. Thankfully you can describe a channel to remind you. Type com/setdesc 2=McGuffin and look at your iComm.
iComm - #### /-------------------- iComm - #### ---------------------\ | | | | | FRQ Name Encryption Key | | 1 100.00 - General Traffic | | 2 245.67 - McGuffin parcourse | | This communications unit is: ON | \-----| |-----/ | IDC: ON | | com/help for more info. | \-------------------------------------------/
Transmitting messages
- Syntax: com <channel>=<message>
Miscellaneous Commands
- Syntax: com/status <on/off>
Turns your com on and off.
- Syntax: com/idc <on/off>
Turns IDC (identity controller) on and off. If it's off, no one knows who you are when you use the iComm.
- Syntax: com/tune <channel>=<frequency>
Change a channel (i.e. 1, 2, 3...) to a new frequency.
- Syntax: com/delchan <channel>
Deletes a channel.
Common problems
If you've just bought an iComm and it won't work, you'll need to drop it and pick it up again, while on a planet (not a ship). This allows the zone feature of HSpace to set correctly.
